If you’re someone who loves modern features in a home, then it’s easy enough to recreate them in your own space. Perhaps you’ve just moved into a home that feels a little more dated and needs a bit of TLC.
Whether it’s some minor updates you’re looking to make or you’re up for making some big changes, here’s everything you need to know when it comes to updating the home with modern touches.

Refurbish anything that may be broken or dated
Firstly, there are a lot of furnishings within your home that may well be worth updating through refurbishment. Just because something is broken or looks dated, doesn’t mean it can’t be worked on to make it new again.
For example, a fireplace repair might bring back a broken fireplace that once was the focal point of the living room. If there are any fixtures or fittings that currently look a little dated, find ways to bring a modern touch to their appearance.
Add indoor nature and flowers
One of the great benefits of nature is that it can breathe life into an otherwise dull-looking space. Indoor nature and flowers have become widely popular in many homes nowadays. Not only do they look pretty but they add color to the space. As well as that, they have many health benefits that will bring many benefits to your household.
Consider household plants and flowers that you can look after without them dying on you. If you have a hard time keeping most plants alive, then something as perseverent as a snake plant or a cactus might be best suited to you.
Invest in smart features
Smart features have become very popular amongst those homes who prefer modern touches to the more vintage-styled homes.
Whether it’s installing a responsive hot/cold water tap or shower system to implementing smart thermostats and underfloor heating, there are plenty of smart appliances out there.
Of course, there are many smart home appliances to purchase that aren’t necessarily permanent fixtures within your home. This could be a ring doorbell or a microwave that you can control from your smartphone.
Create an open space in the living and dining room
For those who love a bit more space within the home, consider creating an open space within the living room and dining room. These are areas that are fantastic when it comes to entertaining without having someone blocking a door to the kitchen or feeling cramped in the space in general.
It might include knocking down a wall or two but it’s a worthwhile update to make for the sake of modernizing the home.
Update cupboards and hardware
Finally, a small but great update to make to the home is with your kitchen and bathroom cupboards. Cupboard doors can become a little outdated in their appearance but if you sand down and paint over the cupboards, as well as replace the hardware, it transforms the space completely.
These tips are just the starting point for adding that modern touch to your home this year.
