[ctt template=”4″ link=”8bkC2″ via=”yes” ]Are you planning for a long-distance move? If you are concerned with cost, then think of a non-conventional option — a portable moving pod or a metal container. Learn more about how they can be useful.[/ctt]

The Portable Metal Container Moving Option

While considering options for for cross country moving services, think about transporting belongings in a moving container.     Yes, instead of vans and trucks, you can rent a metal container. Have you heard of this option before?

Moving Containers

If moving containers are not in your radar, then this is the best time to learn more about them. Just as you thought, a portable moving container is an aluminum and steel container fitted for hauling services. They are durable, weatherproof, and economical, considering you can pack a lot of stuff into them. Some containers offer climate-controlled environments. You need to find a company that provides these services.
Perhaps the best thing about moving containers is that they double as storage units. If you choose, you can pack stuff you won’t be needing but still don’t want to throw away in a portable container. A reliable company would be responsible for ensuring that your property is in good hands if you can afford the monthly rental fee.

Packing and Unpacking

Typically, you will be packing the portable container with your belongings. Given a few days, you should have filled it with everything you plan to bring. Some companies allow you to take your time with unpacking once you reach the destination. It depends on the arrangement you will make.
Before you pack stuff in a moving container, separate the items you are allowed to place inside from prohibited items. Do not assume anything. What you think may be harmless could be potentially hazardous in a long-distance transfer. For instance, pool chemicals and nail polish remover are not as “innocent” as you think. They are not allowed by most container van companies. Moreover, valuables should not be mixed with household supplies, old clothes, and furniture. Keep your jewelry close, and transport the antiques or other valuable items in another container.

Cutting Costs

One of the reasons you should consider using a portable container is affordability. If you compare costs, it is one of the most economical options for long-distance transport. The amount you need to pay depends on the services included in the package.
Expect to pay more if packing services are included. If you will load and unload the contents yourself, enjoy savings of a few hundred dollars. If you want to cut costs further, then cross out delivery of the container to your doorstep. Instead, bring your stuff to the company’s facility for loading. That is if the option is available.

Container Size

The size of the container matters as well. A smaller pod would cost less than a bigger pod, of course. If you can get rid of stuff that you won’t need, then you won’t have to spend as much. Companies offering container services would have varying pod sizes.

A long-distance move could be costly and time-consuming. If you plan well and consider all possible options, you just might make it within a budget that you can afford.
