Making your own cleaning products is not only thrifty but incredibly satisfying. You’d be surprised what you can DIY from just a few simple household ingredients. You’ll never need to rely on cleaning products from the store again as these homemade formulas work just as well. One thing to note is to always err on the side of caution and label your bottles. That way, you’ll know exactly which ingredients have gone into each in case they get into the wrong hands. Here are the top five cleaning products you can DIY.

Homemade window cleaner

For many people, window cleaning is one of the least fun household chores. It can be quite difficult to do it well and to end up with perfectly streak-free windows. With this homemade window cleaner, your windows will shine like never before. Use it with a microfiber cloth for the best results. The ingredients are 2 cups of water, half a cup of white or cider vinegar, a quarter cup of 70% rubbing alcohol and if you like, a couple of drops of your favorite essential oil, citrus tends to work best.

All-purpose cleaner

As well as making your own soap, you can also use essential oils or herbs to make a scented all-purpose cleaner for your house. The recipe for an all-purpose cleaner is very simple, just one part white vinegar and one part water. You can then add a few sprigs of fresh herbs such as rosemary, just as long as you leave to infuse for about a week. This spray can then be used to clean almost all the surfaces of your house.

Heavy-duty scrub

For getting rid of tougher grime or rust you need a homemade scrub cleaner. This is particularly good on enamel or porcelain in the bathroom. Simply dip half a lemon into some borax powder and use it to scrub the grime off the surfaces. This isn’t suitable for granite or marble, however, but it’ll do wonders for other kitchen and bathroom materials.

3 Ingredient stain remover

You would never believe that a homemade stain remover would work, but this one is only three ingredients and gets out even the toughest stains. Add a cup of dish soap and a cup of chlorine bleach to a gallon of hot water. Use this mix to soak the stained item for at least twenty minutes. You can then throw it in the washing machine and the stain should come out.

Kitchen polish and deodorizer

Cleaning with this kitchen polish and deodorizer is an easy way to make your home smell good. The active ingredient is baking soda which is mixed with warm water. You can also use it to unclog your drains or garbage disposal. It’s perfect for getting rid of odors and leaving your kitchen gleaming. Baking soda is often the secret ingredient in homemade cleaning products and you’ll be impressed by the results. Get your home smelling fresh and clean in no time, with these simple household items.
