If you’re considering a career in the care industry, you may be wondering if you have what it takes. You may find yourself forming strong bonds with your patients only for them to pass away unexpectedly. You will need to carry out sometimes unpleasant jobs like helping them to the toilet and bathing them, as well as a great deal of physical labor.

It can be incredibly emotionally draining, as you will be working with vulnerable people suffering with all kinds of mental and physical ailments.  The hours can be long and the pay can be low, and understandably, it is not a job for everyone.

But there are many fantastic reasons to start searching for caregiving jobs in philadelphia (or caregiving jobs wherever you may be based) and beginning a career as a professional caregiver. Despite the many challenges, it is one of the most rewarding life paths you can take.

If you need some help to make up your mind, here are a few great reasons to consider becoming a carer.

It is rewarding

Caregiving is one of the most rewarding jobs you can do, as you are making such a huge difference to people who really need it. Those who require care are generally older people who have lived a long and varied life, many of whom have done great things. And now they need some assistance in their golden years, which you can provide. There is huge satisfaction to be found in helping the community, and you will go home at the end of each day with a sense of achievement. It truly is a career to be proud of.

Career progression

No one becomes a carer for the money, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t several opportunities for continued personal development and career progression. If you start offering care – the company you work for might offer you further training and additional responsibilities in return for prolonged service. And as you gain experience and skills over time, you can eventually work your way up to more senior positions such as care home manager or senior care advisor. It is not always an easy career, but it is one that pays off if you work hard at it.

Further training can include anything from basic first aid and manual handling, emt prep courses to more specialist courses such as dementia awareness or nutrition for the elderly. There are also plenty of management qualifications available if you want to move up the ladder. In addition, many carers go on to study social work or nursing, using their experience in the care sector as a stepping stone into these professions.

Variety

When you work in care, no two days are ever the same. You will be working with different patients all the time, performing a wide range of jobs. You are constantly being introduced to new people, new environments, and new challenges. It is world’s apart from a monotonous office job where you follow the same routine each and every day. And although the work can be stressful and challenging, you can guarantee you’ll never get bored!

Human connection

Being a carer is all about the people. If you’re thinking about this career path, you are probably a people person, and this role is a very social one. You will forge strong connections with several different patients, and colleagues, making some great friends along the way. Each day will be an emotional rollercoaster of laughter, tears, happiness, and frustration. But it’s the people that make it worth doing.
