The self-sustaining design is going to become more and more visible in the future and part of your life.  As you become more aware of the effects of your surroundings in your life, going eco-friendly in your home will be the only way to go forward. Green  infrastructure is becoming extremely relevant as we work to create a more environmentally friendly world, from architecture to product design. This blog post will go over some ways to incorporate recycled materials into your home and make it more eco-friendly!

1) Reuse and Recycle Furniture:

You most probably have a few pieces of decor in your home, but if you want to create a greener atmosphere, consider looking for vintage or secondhand furniture. Not only will this help reduce waste from landfills, but it can also be a great way to add character and style to your home. If buying used isn't an option for you, look for companies that use sustainable materials like bamboo or recycled plastic.

2) Shop Local:

Shopping locally is one of the best ways to support sustainable businesses and reduce emissions related to the transportation of goods. Look up local farmers' markets and craft fairs where artisans create unique items out of reclaimed materials like wood or fabrics. Not only will you get unique, one-of-a-kind items for your home, but you can also feel good about supporting small businesses that are doing their part to reduce waste. You should also consider making things yourself with local materials. There are several DIY projects you can do around the home that will contribute to your eco-friendly goals. If you have a sewing machine you can use fabric that is sustainable to create things like curtains and pillowcases. You can create a cozy sewing corner in a section of your home and even get a sewing cabinet that stores all your supplies.

3) Choose Eco-Friendly Building Materials:

When it comes to building materials like insulation and paint, there are now many options available that use natural or recycled materials. Bamboo and cork flooring is becoming increasingly popular as an eco-friendly option due to its durability, sustainability, and stylish look. Insulation made from hemp or wool is another great choice as it helps regulate the temperature in the home while being much more energy efficient than traditional insulation materials.

4) Consider Lighting:

LED and CFL bulbs are the best lighting options on the market. They not only use less electricity than conventional bulbs but also last longer, which means you won't have to replace them as commonly. Solar lighting is also getting popular, especially in outdoor areas. It's simple to set up and a wonderful way to make your home more eco-friendly without breaking the bank!

5) Utilize Renewable Energy Sources:

Renewable sources of energy, such as solar panels, are now becoming increasingly popular since they generate clean energy that does not contribute to global warming or air pollution, as other forms of energy production do. Solar panels are advisable for your home and are relatively easy to install. Any electric utility is now providing incentives to homeowners who invest in solar panel sources. A Whole home backup battery has been discovered to be an appropriate solution for this.

6) Upgrade Your Appliances:

Upgrading your appliances has to be considered, especially if you haven't replaced them for the last 20 years. Appliances have become so much more energy efficient in the last few decades, so it is important to consider replacing them with newer models.  Look for appliances that have Energy Star ratings, as these use less electricity than standard models and also offer additional features like Wi-Fi connectivity and voice control.

By making simple changes like these in your home, you can help create a more sustainable future for everyone. The good news is that eco-friendly design doesn't have to be expensive or difficult – there are plenty of ways to incorporate sustainable materials into your home without breaking the bank! So get creative and start making your home a greener, more sustainable place today!
