It can be tough watching a friend or family member go through a difficult time. Whether they need to make a big life decision, are experiencing grief, or have troubles with their health, it is important to be there for them.

If you want to express yourself today and be a caring friend, here is how to be there for someone that is going through a difficult time.

Gift them a gift if it is difficult to talk about the issue

Some issues are better off not being spoken about. If a friend makes you aware of the issue and tells you they don’t want to talk about it, it is still important for you to be there for them.

For instance, your friend might have told you they are pregnant but wish to get rid of the baby. If so, it can be a great idea to show them support through gifting, rather than discussing the issue.

You could Give a Love Box to someone considering abortion, to encourage them to be fearless and ensure they feel supported throughout the journey. You might find it difficult to talk to them about it, as it might cause distress. However, a small gift can show you are there for them and want to support them.

Offer to help

Another great way to help a friend that is going through a difficult time is to offer help.

Your friend might be going through a tough period because they are a newly single mum and they have a full-time job. Hence, you could offer to babysit or take the baby out at the weekend so they have time to themselves. Friends will often say no to help. But, if you insist, you can help them through the tough time and ensure they do not put too much pressure on themselves.

Bake them something that they love to put a smile on their face

Baking someone a cake or a batch of cookies is an endearing way to show support. Food is the way to the heart and if you know they love baked goods, it is the perfect reason to get baking and make them something.

Even if it puts a smile on their face for 5 minutes, the effort will be worth it. Plus, it will show them you want to help in any way possible without intruding.

Take them out for distraction

Sometimes, people that go through difficult times will avoid going outside and having fun. However, going out and doing something fun is the best way to distract yourself from the situation.

Therefore, if they are not being proactive in going out, you should offer to take them out. Doing so will ensure they are distracted and can forget the issue for the time being. You could take them to their favorite coffee shop or go for a walk to clear their head. Sometimes, fresh air is the best remedy for stress.
