For many people keeping their homes as clean as possible is a top priority right now. With everything that is going on in the world, health and hygiene have become hot topics. Every parent wants to create a home environment that keeps their family as healthy as possible, but keeping up with the chores while taking care of the family is a big task. We want to make our home clean and healthy, but using commercial cleaning products with harsh chemical ingredients can be a worry, particularly if you have young children and pets. Luckily, there are many ways to take a more natural approach to keeping your home clean

One of the significant benefits of looking for natural ways to keep your home healthy is that these solutions often cost less and are also better for the environment. Keeping your home clean and healthy is all about getting the basics right and keeping your home well-maintained, once you have got this right, ensuring that your home stays clean and healthy is far more manageable.

Ventilation and Air Quality

The air quality in a home is often overlooked, but it is one of the most significant factors for creating a healthy environment. According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, controlling the level of indoor air pollutants can help to reduce the risk of developing indoor health concerns. Keeping the airflow in your home at a healthy level will help reduce the air pollutants, and your home’s air conditioning plays a vital role in this process. Having an air conditioning system that is performing at its best will not only keep your home at a comfortable temperature but will also help to improve the air quality. If you are looking for a new air conditioner installation, you will need to check that it performs at the level you need it too, and suits your family’s lifestyle. Choosing the right air conditioner for your needs can really help to keep the air in your home as healthy as possible.

Mold

No one likes to see mold in their home, so if you spot the tell-tale signs of black mold, it is crucial to get it cleaned up as soon as you can. Evidence on the health implications of black mold is often conflicting, but a large number of mold spores in the home environment will have a negative impact on health. If you have people in your household with allergies, they are likely to be particularly sensitive to the presence of mold in the home.

When it comes to black mold, prevention is better than cure. You can find out whether you have mold spores with a toxic mold test kit. Wiping down and cleaning surfaces exposed to moisture, such as the kitchen and bathroom can help to prevent mold from forming in the first place. Ensuring that your home is well-ventilated will also help to prevent mold formation. Ventilation is particularly crucial after taking a shower or when cooking.

Keeping an eye out for mold in the home and cleaning it away straight away should help to inhibit its growth before it becomes a problem.

Dust

Dust is a pesky thing to clean; it seems that one moment you clean it and the next it reappears. In a busy household, dusting can feel like a never-ending task.

Keeping your home dust-free not only makes it look cleaner, but it is particularly important if you have allergy sufferers in your family. If you are a household that’s prone to allergies, it is advisable to dust twice per week rather than just once, which is often recommended for non-allergy sufferers. To dust effectively, it is best to start at the top, so begin with the ceiling and work your way down to the floor. If you clean higher areas last, the dust will fall back down onto areas that you have already dusted.

To minimize the amount of dust build-up in your home, it is a good idea to declutter regularly so that there are fewer areas in the house to attract dust in the first place. If you are looking for greener cleaning methods, then try swapping your regular duster for a microfiber cloth. Microfiber cloths are an excellent choice for cleaning all around the home without chemicals and are particularly useful for dusting. The reason that microfiber cloths make the perfect choice for dusting is the static charge that they give off. The static charge attracts dust particles to the fabric, which makes dusting a far easier task and much faster than with a standard duster.

It’s also important to do a general health check on your vacuum to make sure it is picking up dust properly so that it doesn’t settle in your home. Make sure you clear the filters, cut any debris out of the vacuum head and clean it regularly so it functions correctly. If you think your vacuum cleaner is on its way out due to a high whining noise when it is on, it is time to invest in a new one. It doesn’t necessarily matter which vacuum is the best, the main thing is that it works correctly to avoid dust build-up in your home.
