No matter what stage of life you're at, it's always a good idea to invest for the future. You never know what financial position you might be in in 5 or 10 years time, so it's always good to have something that you can fall back on as a kind of safety net to ensure you never have to go without. Fortunately there are many brilliant ideas that you can explore when it comes to small investments, and it needn't be as difficult as you might expect to get started today. So, if you're interested in finding out more, then simply read on to uncover some of the best investment pathways that you can make the most of now!

Hobby Accessories

Even in tough times, the wealthy will still spend money on their hobbies. Consider an item to collect like model train accessories for railroad enthusiasts. You could buy niche LEGO sets, like the Star Wars or Ninjago sets and eventually either resell the entire set or break it up into sections and sell the minifigs, pets, accessories, buildings and vehicles each separately.

Find a niche fan world people get into, like Pokemon, and collect those items to resell later. In the Pokemon world, you could niche it down to the cards, the plush items, or the Pokemon Trading Card Game boxes like the ones that Pokeflip has. The more you “niche-down,” the more you will know the product and its value. This will make you a better buyer and seller.

Precious Metals

A great way to invest your money soundly without having to shell out a fortune is by purchasing precious metals. Metals like gold and platinum are always increasing in their value, so your investment could be worth as much as 25% more than it's initial purchase cost in as little as 10 years. Gold often increases in value during periods of financial stress, so you'll have a healthy safety net to rely on in times of difficulty. You can choose to invest in a piece of jewelry that sports other selling points such as diamonds and similar precious stones, or purchase pure gold bars (bullions) in small quantities so that they can be easily melted down and utilized by the buyer. In addition to jewelry and bullions, you can also invest in gold and silver coins from sources such as Gov Mint. Each option will attract a different kind of clientele so the choice is yours, but it's best to do some research before deciding on the best pathway to explore.

Sports Trading Cards

Some things never die, and society's love for sports and their favorite players, as well as statistics about those players is a passion that seems to burn on despite the world changing so rapidly. Taking the opportunity to invest in a highly graded sports trading card of one of your favorite players is a brilliant idea, as these often acquire higher value with age, so the longer that you look after your purchase the more valuable it will be. You can even purchase sports cards with your player's autograph, or cards with a piece of a jersey they have worn! Sports card investing can be a wonderfully exciting investment pathway to explore, as you can either choose to shop from home in online auctions, go small scale in person at local trading events, or go large scale in person at huge card trading shows. So get clued up on the latest names and faces to ensure you can attract the largest return on your small investment.

Finding the perfect small investment option for your unique needs has never been so simple when you can take the time to make the most of these brilliant ideas detailed above. There's no time like the present to start your investment portfolio, so what are you waiting for?
